MCFC 2014 Boys Claim KC Fall Finale Championship
Adrian's free kick sparks comeback as McPherson goes undefeated with stingy defense
KANSAS CITY — The McPherson City FC 2014 boys team captured the KC Fall Finale championship this weekend with a perfect 4-0 record, anchored by a dominant defensive performance that allowed just one goal throughout the tournament.
Goalkeeper Sam Walters proved to be the difference maker, making numerous saves to preserve clean sheets in three of four matches. The Bullpups cruised through group stage play with goals from Cason Moore, Cason Adrian, Asher Morales, Max McConnell, and Braylon Bina.
The championship final provided the weekend's most dramatic moments. After McPherson conceded its first goal of the tournament early, the team remained composed and pushed for an equalizer. Cason Adrian delivered with a thunderous free kick from distance that found the corner to tie the match.
The momentum shift proved crucial as McPherson took the lead when Moore sent a cross that Bina volleyed home for what proved to be the championship-winning goal. Walters made several crucial late saves to preserve the victory and cap the undefeated tournament run.
"The boys hung their hat on defense all tournament," said Coach Chris Adrian. "They kept playing hard and pushed for the equalizer."
The championship marks an impressive weekend for the 2014 squad, which demonstrated both defensive discipline and offensive firepower throughout the four-match run.
