Manhattan Road Construction Expands to Include Four Residential Streets

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The second phase of Anderson Avenue water, street, and stormwater improvements began Monday, expanding the existing construction zone east to the intersection with Elling and Oakdale drives, city officials announced.

The construction phase will close access to Anderson Avenue from four residential streets: Bellehaven Road, Elling Drive, Midland Avenue and Oakdale Drive, according to the City of Manhattan.

While this section will not be fully closed, it will continue to have shifting lane closures and many residential intersections will be closed, the city stated in its announcement.

The ongoing project involves comprehensive infrastructure improvements including water line, street and stormwater system upgrades along the Anderson Avenue corridor.

The official detour route is Sunset Avenue to Claflin to Seth Child Road. City officials recommend through traffic use alternative east-west routes including Claflin Road, Fort Riley Boulevard and Kimball Avenue.

Drivers should expect moderate to heavy traffic and delays on Anderson Avenue, Canfield Drive, Timberlane Drive, Wildwood Lane, Willard Place and Woodland Street.

The construction phase is estimated to take at least 4.5 months to complete, depending on weather conditions.

City officials urge drivers to exercise caution in the construction zone, follow posted signage and watch for construction workers.

The Anderson Avenue improvement project represents part of Manhattan's ongoing infrastructure modernization efforts in the eastern part of the city.
