Manhattan Public Library Prepares for Busy Fall Season of Programming

MANHATTAN, Kan. — The Manhattan Public Library is gearing up for another season of community programming as fall approaches, continuing its mission to connect residents to a world of ideas and information.

Located at 629 Poyntz Ave., the library serves as a hub for Manhattan residents of all ages, offering everything from traditional book lending to digital resources and technology training. The facility provides access to books, movies, audiobooks and computers, along with specialized services for children and families.

Among the library's ongoing programs is Chess Night, which takes place on the second Wednesday of each month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the library's auditorium. The informal evening welcomes players of all skill levels, with volunteers available to help newcomers learn chess basics and develop strategies.

The library's commitment to technology education continues through its Tech Training and Workshops program, which offers both one-on-one assistance and group classes. Staff members provide support with assistive technology and instruction on various digital topics. Those interested in scheduling sessions can call (785) 776-4741, ext. 300.

Digital services have become a cornerstone of the library's offerings, with patrons able to access current magazine issues online through services like Better Homes and Gardens, O Magazine and Rolling Stone. The library also provides access to local newspaper archives, including the Manhattan Mercury from 1997 to present, and statewide digital resources through the Kansas State Library.

For residents interested in supporting library operations, volunteer opportunities are available year-round. The library accepts applications for adult public service volunteers who assist with storytimes, clubs, adult programs and special events. Teen volunteers in grades 9-12 can apply for summer positions helping with reading programs and events.

The library offers interlibrary loan services, allowing patrons to borrow materials from other Kansas libraries using their Manhattan Public Library card. Staff members are available to help with research needs and can be reached at (785) 776-4741 or through text messaging at (785) 789-3270.

Library hours and specific fall event schedules can be found on the library's website at mhklibrary.org or by visiting the calendar at manhattanks.librarycalendar.com. The library encourages community members to check their digital platforms and visit in person for the most current information about programming and services.
