Manhattan Parks and Recreation Launches Sportsmanship Initiative

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Manhattan Parks and Recreation has introduced "Sportsmanship Sundays," a weekly initiative aimed at promoting positive behavior and respect in youth sports programs across the community.

The program, announced Sept. 28, is designed to reinforce the department's mission of building healthy communities through people, places and programs by creating safe, positive spaces where players, parents, coaches, staff and spectators can enjoy recreation together.

"At Manhattan Parks and Recreation, our mission is to build healthy communities through people, places, and programs," the department stated in announcing the initiative. "Part of that mission means creating safe, positive spaces where everyone—players, parents, coaches, staff, and spectators—can enjoy recreation together."

The initiative centers on the department's Code of Conduct, which serves as what officials describe as "our playbook for respect, fun, and safety, both on and off the field."

Starting this week, the department will share "Sportsmanship Sundays," described as a lighthearted look at the basics of good sportsmanship and how participants can do their part to keep recreation constructive and enjoyable.

The weekly posts will offer reminders, insights and occasional sideline moments, emphasizing that when everyone follows the same code of conduct, all participants benefit.

The initiative operates under the hashtag #RecreationForAll and encourages community members to stay engaged with the program throughout the sports season.
