Manhattan Law Firm Awards Two Students $2,000 for Community Service

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Two college students received $1,000 scholarships from Manhattan-based Addair Law for demonstrating exceptional commitment to public service and community involvement.
Peri Stevens and Andrew Navarro were named the 2024 Public Spirit Scholarship winners by the law firm, which doubled its award this year due to the quality of applications received.
Stevens, an oncology nurse pursuing a master's degree in Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner at Purdue University Global, has dedicated her career to cancer patient care. With an honors degree from Indiana University, Peri has honed her skills as an oncology nurse, working diligently to provide top-notch care to patients and families affected by cancer.
Navarro, a Kansas State University senior from Leawood majoring in political science with a secondary major in international studies, serves as a research assistant for the Chapman Center for Rural Studies. His research focuses on gender disparities in local elected offices. He served as President for his Model United Nations team, which won four awards their past conference, and he plans to attend law school after graduation.
The scholarship is open to any current high school senior, vocational student, college student or graduate student who is a legal resident of the United States residing in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia and who is enrolled in a vocational program or two to four year post-secondary institution for the Fall 2025 semester.
Applicants must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and submit a 750-1,000 word essay discussing their community involvement and the academic value gained from giving back to others. Examples of civic involvement include voting, volunteering at local or nonprofit organizations, coaching for community sports leagues, tutoring, or fundraising.
