LOVING: Invest in Main Street
McPherson has done this before. The Opera House is proof.
McPherson's Main Street is the envy of most towns our size. For those of us who grew up here, it is a street full of memories. For the remote workers looking to relocate, it is the Americana they assumed was gone. I'm fairly sure John Mellencamp wrote "Small Town" about it. (He didn't. It was Seymour, Indiana. But he could have.)
Last week I made the case that McPherson needs more restaurants, and that our industrial success cuts both ways when it comes to staffing them (see last week's column). This week I want to widen the lens by a block. McPherson should invest in its downtown. This column will cover 3 things: where Main Street falls short, what it could be, and the first step the city is taking.
