Lady Cougars rout Warriors 57-6, advance to Sub-State Finals

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Central Christian High School Cougars girls basketball team hosted the Peabody-Burns High School Warriors in a Kansas State High School Athletic Association sub-state quarterfinal at Central Christian High School on Monday.
Central Christian entered the game with an impressive 22-2 record, with both losses coming against teams from higher classifications. The Cougars are the top seed in the Hartford section of Class 1A-II and are one of four girls' teams in Class 1A-II to enter the playoffs with 20 or more wins. Peabody-Burns came into the game with a 2-17 record. The Warriors were coming off a sub-state first-round victory over Marmaton Valley High School.
The game was dominated by Central Christian, as indicated by the final score of 57-6. The Lady Cougars were active on defense, leading to numerous points off steals and turnovers. Central Christian dominated on both the offensive and defensive boards.
Senior Jessa Losew led the Lady Cougars in scoring with 16 points. Junior Avery Kauffman added the outside threat with three 3-point baskets. Warriors senior Abbigail Mendez-Campos was active under the basket, working hard to deny points.
With the victory, Central Christian advances to the sub-state finals on Saturday, March 7, where they will face the Waverly High School Bulldogs. The game will be played at Hartford High School in Hartford, Kan.
