Council pauses Triangle Park stage project over high costs

KEMMERER, Wyo. — The city council has suspended plans to build a permanent stage at Triangle Park after initial estimates came in two to three times higher than expected. During a workshop discussion, officials noted that a fully equipped, raised stage to accommodate modern media equipment would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars — a price tag equivalent to replacing several blocks of city streets. City officials confirmed the project is on long-term hold, though the city may revisit the idea in the future as community needs and funding evolve.

Contract awarded for city street rehabilitation project

KEMMERER, Wyo. — R&D Sweeping and Asphalt of Rock Springs has been awarded the contract for a city street rehabilitation project after submitting a low bid of $390,415. The approved bid came in well below the engineer's estimate of $404,000 and the city's budgeted amount for the roadwork. Construction will begin soon, and the contractual agreement requires the project to be substantially completed by Sept. 1.

Historic Stock Exchange Club gets new ownership and liquor license

KEMMERER, Wyo. — The city council unanimously approved the transfer of a retail liquor license for the historic Stock Exchange Club, officially handing the business over to Saloon 307, LLC. The new ownership assured the council and community that plans include restoring the building and honoring its history, addressing concerns from council members about maintaining the architectural integrity of the Triangle. Renovations, including restoring the building's historic neon signage, are expected to begin immediately to enhance the downtown area's appeal.

Fossil scavenger hunt aims to boost downtown tourism

KEMMERER, Wyo. — In an effort to draw visitors from Fossil Butte National Monument into downtown Kemmerer, the Fossil Basin Chamber of Commerce and the Fossil Basin Promotion Board are launching a citywide fossil scavenger hunt. Participants will use rubbing plates located at various local shops to complete a booklet, eventually earning a real fossil as a prize. The initiative is designed to increase foot traffic and revenue for Triangle businesses by encouraging the monument's estimated 21,000 annual visitors to explore the city's commercial center.

City to launch new custom website

KEMMERER, Wyo. — The city council approved a five-year sales agreement with a website vendor to design and develop a new custom website for the municipality. The contract includes an initial design and implementation cost of $9,225, followed by an annual maintenance fee of $2,300. Funds for the digital modernization project were previously approved in the city's budget.

New police canine arrives, makes first discovery

KEMMERER, Wyo. — The city police department's new K-9 unit has officially arrived from Texas and is already proving its worth. During the transport trip back to Wyoming, the highly trained dog successfully detected drugs in a hotel parking lot while on a routine break, without needing any commands. The department is currently updating its internal policies and procedures to fully integrate the dog into active patrol duties.

Council honors local wrestling teams for state titles

KEMMERER, Wyo. — The city council closed its meeting by celebrating Kemmerer High School's wrestling teams for their outstanding seasons. The boys' team captured first place out of 20 teams in the state championship, marking their third state title in five years. The girls' team was also recognized for an exceptional season, highlighted by Kaylie Julander, an undefeated 50-0 individual state champion wrestler.
