Kansas SAR Chapters Unite to Dedicate Heritage Oak

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Kansas Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Dodge City Chapter is partnering with the Buffalo Society CAR (Children of the American Revolution) on a meaningful Liberty Tree Project that connects modern Kansans with their Revolutionary War heritage.

The project centers around a Heritage Oak tree that has been planted and is awaiting the installation of a commemorative marker. The dedication ceremony is planned to take place at the Veterans Cemetery in Dodge City, where the tree will serve as a lasting tribute to the patriots who fought for American independence.

According to Patricia Winger of the Great Plains Regional organization, the Kansas CAR Dodge City Buffalo Society and the Dodge City DAR recently visited the SAR granite bench marker located at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. "We are proud of our partnership and helping take care of the bench," Winger noted, referencing their ongoing collaboration with the Sons of the American Revolution.

The Kansas State Fairgrounds serves as an important gathering place for these patriotic organizations, remaining open year-round with access through the South Gate for visitors wishing to see the commemorative installations.

The Kansas Society Sons of the American Revolution is comprised of 13 chapters throughout the state, with members who trace their lineage to Patriots of the American Revolution between 1774 and 1783. The organization works collectively to uphold the values of patriotism, courage, sacrifice, and triumph that defined the Revolutionary era.

The Liberty Tree Project represents one of many educational initiatives undertaken by Kansas SAR chapters. Many activities focus on education through time-tested programs, including youth programs and contests that help preserve the history of the fight for independence and remember the tremendous sacrifices undertaken.

Bryan Wampler, President of the Kansas State Society Sons of the American Revolution, emphasized the organization's mission: "We strive to secure the preservation of the American Revolution history and the Constitution" while fostering connections between members across Kansas and beyond.

The collaboration between the SAR, CAR, and DAR demonstrates the continued commitment of multiple generations to preserving Revolutionary War heritage and educating the public about America's founding principles.

Updates on the Liberty Tree dedication ceremony will be provided as the project moves forward, with organizers promising to share photographs once the marker installation is complete.
