Kansas marks National Arts and Humanities Month with proclamation

TOPEKA – Gov. Laura Kelly joined Kansas Humanities board members and staff at the Kansas Arts Commission signing ceremony to launch National Arts and Humanities Month in Kansas.
The October proclamation recognizes the role arts and humanities play in Kansas communities. Kelly signed the declaration during a ceremony attended by representatives from both the Kansas Humanities board and the Kansas Arts Commission.
"The arts and humanities help tell the stories of Kansans and embody the wisdom, intellect, and imagination of humankind," according to the proclamation.

The monthlong observance highlights programming and activities throughout Kansas. The Kansas Arts Commission is promoting stories, events and opportunities for residents to engage with arts and humanities initiatives during October and year-round.
Kansas Humanities is encouraging public participation through its Movement of Ideas campaign, which features exhibitions, programs and community discussions across the state.
The proclamation emphasizes the contributions of arts and humanities to Kansas communities and the state's cultural identity.
October has been designated as National Arts and Humanities Month nationwide to celebrate cultural programming and encourage public engagement with creative and educational initiatives.
