Kansas Launches $25,000 Grant Program for Rural Tech Startups

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas has launched a new grant program offering up to $25,000 to early-stage technology startups in rural areas, with the first application deadline set for Sept. 30.
The ACCEL-KS program at Groover Labs provides funding specifically designed for entrepreneurs transforming product ideas in software, hardware and other technology into market-ready ventures. Rural applicants can receive $5,000 Rural Partner Grants to support early development, with additional funding available up to the $25,000 maximum.
Beyond funding, the program connects grantees with statewide mentors, virtual programming and personalized coaching. Hardware projects receive additional on-site support to help founders test, validate and launch their technology products.
"This program helps Kansas entrepreneurs transform scalable product ideas into market-ready ventures," according to program materials. The initiative targets both rural applicants starting with smaller grants and innovators ready for larger projects who can apply directly for full awards.
The program represents a partnership with StartUp Hutch, providing local founders access to resources previously unavailable in many rural Kansas communities.
Applications close Sept. 30 at 5 p.m., with funding decisions announced by Oct. 30. Program officials say this represents just the first round, with additional funding opportunities planned for coming months.
More information and applications are available at innovationkansas.org.
The program comes as Kansas seeks to retain young talent and encourage technology entrepreneurship in rural communities that have traditionally struggled to compete with urban startup ecosystems.
