MCPHERSON, Kan. —The Kansas Forest Service has begun a comprehensive tree inventory throughout the City of McPherson, with staff expected to remain in the community for approximately one month collecting vital data about the local tree population. The organization, which periodically conducts these assessments in communities across Kansas, is documenting detailed information including species identification, size, age, and other characteristics that will be shared with the municipality to support the City's Tree Master Plan.

Currently focusing on McPherson's park system, the forest service team will also examine street trees throughout various neighborhoods, according to Southeast Kansas District Forester Kody Kraemer. While the inventory may bring staff into residential areas, Kraemer emphasized that workers will not enter private property and will concentrate solely on trees near public streets. Residents should expect to see white government-tagged vehicles in their neighborhoods as the forest service completes this important environmental assessment over the coming weeks.
