JV Bullpups Fall Short in High-Scoring Affair with Mulvane
McPherson JV offense explodes for four long touchdowns but drops 34-30 decision
The McPherson JV Bullpups put up a valiant offensive effort Friday night but came up just short, falling to Mulvane 34-30 in a back-and-forth shootout.
Quarterback Brady Rinker led the Bullpups' aerial assault, throwing three touchdown passes including a pair of scoring strikes to Brody Hoffman. The duo connected on touchdown passes of 51 and 70 yards, with Hoffman finding the end zone twice on explosive plays downfield.
Rinker opened the scoring with the 51-yard touchdown to Hoffman, then connected with Carter Melton on a two-point conversion to give the Bullpups an early 8-0 lead. The second Hoffman touchdown from 70 yards out came with a failed two-point attempt.
The junior signal-caller wasn't done, adding an 82-yard touchdown pass to Colt Chapman. Felipe Barrera-Prado converted the two-point try to extend McPherson's offensive output.
Graham Prescott provided the Bullpups' lone rushing touchdown with an 87-yard scoring run, breaking free for the game's longest play from scrimmage. Isaac Nelson ran in the two-point conversion following Prescott's score.
Despite the four explosive touchdown plays totaling 290 yards, the Bullpups couldn't quite overcome Mulvane's offensive attack. McPherson converted three of its four two-point conversion attempts but fell four points short in the final tally.
The Bullpups will look to bounce back in their next outing.
