Johnson Explodes for Career Day as Hutch QB Claims KJCCC Honor
Information obtained from HCC officials

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College sophomore quarterback Christian Johnson turned in a spectacular season-opening performance that earned him Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week honors Tuesday.
The 5-foot-11, 206-pound signal-caller from Montgomery, Alabama, torched New Mexico Military's defense for career highs in both passing yards and touchdown passes, leading the top-ranked Blue Dragons to a dominant 76-8 victory Saturday.
Johnson was nearly flawless through the air, completing 14 of 18 passes for 237 yards — a 77.8 percent completion rate that showcased his precision and command of the offense. The sophomore tied a Hutchinson opening-day record by firing five touchdown strikes, connecting on scoring plays of 62, 14, 18, 22 and 24 yards.
Perhaps most impressive was Johnson's efficiency, as he needed to play just one series into the third quarter before the Blue Dragons' overwhelming lead allowed the coaching staff to rest their star quarterback.
Johnson wasn't limited to aerial acrobatics, either. He added 42 rushing yards on six carries, helping Hutchinson pile up 545 total yards of offense in the season opener.
The explosive performance marks Johnson's first career KJCCC Player of the Week recognition, capping off a breakout game that announced the Blue Dragons as the team to beat in junior college football this season.
With Johnson orchestrating the offense at this level, Hutchinson appears poised for another championship run in 2025.
