HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A centuries-old Irish sport is making its way to the Kansas plains this month, as the Hibernians of Hutchinson bring Irish road bowling to Carey Park on Saturday, March 14.
The event, set to begin at 9 a.m., invites participants to compete on a 1-mile loop course in the traditional game, in which iron "bullets" are thrown down a closed road and the team with the fewest throws wins.

Teams of one to four players may register for $40 per team. Organizers say spots are limited and encourage early registration at tinyurl.com/IrishRoadBowling.
Spectators are also welcome. Organizers are encouraging attendees to wear green and cheer loudly.
The event is hosted by the Hibernians of Hutchinson, a local chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, an Irish-American Catholic organization.
