Hutchinson's Salley, Wiley earn KJCCC weekly honors

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Two Hutchinson Community College football players earned Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference weekly honors Tuesday following the No. 1 Blue Dragons' 35-17 victory over No. 9 Iowa Central last Saturday in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Sophomore receiver Derrick Salley Jr. claimed his second consecutive KJCCC Offensive Player of the Week award, while redshirt freshman defensive end Darius Wiley earned his first conference weekly honor as Defensive Player of the Week.
Salley and Wiley became the fourth and fifth Blue Dragons to win conference player of the week awards this season.

The 6-foot-4, 216-pound Salley from Green Pond, South Carolina, recorded career highs in receptions and receiving yards against Iowa Central. He caught eight passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns, including scoring catches of 44, 10 and 29 yards.
Salley leads the NJCAA with seven touchdown receptions this season. Through three games, he has 15 catches for 326 yards.

Wiley, a 6-7, 250-pound defensive end from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, anchored Hutchinson's defensive effort with a season-high 11 total tackles. The redshirt freshman recorded five solo stops and 3.5 tackles for loss totaling 17 yards.
Wiley also contributed one quarterback sack for seven yards and blocked a field goal on special teams.
