Hutchinson Zoo summer camps open for registration; early sign-ups receive free t-shirt

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Zoo is accepting registrations for its 2026 summer camp programs, with spots available for students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, zoo officials announced.

Families who register before May 15 will receive a complimentary summer zoo camp t-shirt for their camper. Officials urge early sign-up, as spots are expected to fill quickly.

Camp sessions blend animal encounters, keeper talks, hands-on feeding experiences, crafts and themed activities designed to introduce children to wildlife and conservation. Each week features a different theme, allowing campers to attend multiple sessions throughout the summer.

The following programs are available:

KinderCamp is open to students entering pre-kindergarten or kindergarten in fall 2026. Campers must be at least 4 years old and potty trained. Sessions run 9 a.m. to noon and cost $79, or $69 for zoo members. Scheduled themes include Wildlife Wonders, June 8-12, and Food Frenzy, July 27-31.

First and second grade camps run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at $99, or $89 for members. Themes include Pollinator Protectors, June 22-26, and Habitat Helpers, July 13-17.

Third through fifth grade camps also run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at $99, or $89 for members, with three themed sessions: Junior Zookeepers, June 15-19; Research Rangers, July 6-10; and Zoo Detectives, July 20-24.

Sixth through eighth grade campers can enroll in Zookeeper for a Week, June 1-5, running 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at $99, or $89 for members. The session gives middle schoolers an inside look at the daily responsibilities of professional zookeepers.

An optional add-on, the Crepuscular Club, is available for students entering first grade and above. The extended care program offers supervised free play, an additional snack and nature-themed activities from 8 to 9 a.m. and/or 3 to 5 p.m. for an additional $40 per camper.

Zoo members receive discounted rates on all programs. Scholarship applications for families needing financial assistance are available in the zoo's gift shop, according to a zoo spokesperson.
