DODGE CITY – Hutchinson Community College's women's soccer team defeated Dodge City 1-0 on Oct. 12 at Memorial Stadium, winning its third consecutive match and extending its unbeaten streak to five games in Jayhawk Conference play.
Freshman defender Lucy Bacon scored her first career goal in the 69th minute, launching a shot from 40 yards out that Dodge City goalkeeper Lucy Goss touched but couldn't keep out as it sailed just under the crossbar. Olivia Tamaki recorded the assist.
The breakthrough came after a scoreless first half against a Conquistadors team that packed multiple players behind the ball defensively.
Hutchinson dominated possession and offensive chances, outshooting Dodge City 30-0 overall and 12-0 in shots on goal. Blue Dragons goalkeeper Evie Carvell didn't face a single shot, marking the second time this season and 32nd time in program history Hutchinson has not allowed a shot attempt.
The victory improved Hutchinson to 9-2-2 overall and 6-2-2 in conference play with 20 points. The Blue Dragons extended their winning streak against Dodge City to 33 consecutive matches and improved to 34-1 all-time against the Conquistadors.
Bacon's goal was the fourth scored by a Hutchinson defender this season. The Blue Dragons improved to 1-1 in 1-0 games this year and 19-15 all-time in such contests.
