HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team rose one spot to No. 18 in this week's NJCAA Division I National Rankings after closing out its non-conference schedule with a 2-0 record.

The Blue Dragons defeated Murray State 86-68 on Friday, Nov. 14 and Otero 82-59 on Saturday, Nov. 15, in the Hutch Women's "BreatheFire" Classic at the Sports Arena, finishing the non-conference portion at 5-1.

Hutchinson is one of four Jayhawk Conference teams in Monday's Top 25 rankings. The Blue Dragons have now been ranked in 33 consecutive polls and 192 of the last 214 polls.

For the first time since Hutchinson held the No. 1 ranking last season, the KJCCC has the top-ranked team in the nation. Dodge City (5-0) claimed the No. 1 spot for the first time in program history after Northwest Florida State suffered a weekend loss.

The top five features Dodge City, Chipola, Three Rivers, Gulf Coast State and Northwest Florida State.

No. 14 Butler (5-0) and No. 24 Coffeyville (6-0), making its first appearance in the poll this season, round out the KJCCC's ranked teams.

Whitney Brown led the Blue Dragons in Saturday's win over Otero with 19 points, six assists and three steals.

Hutchinson begins the 24-game KJCCC double-round-robin schedule Wednesday, Nov. 19, hosting Garden City (5-0) at 5:30 p.m. The Blue Dragons travel to Butler on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. in El Dorado.
