Hutchinson volleyball falls to Colby in Region 6 Tournament semifinal

HAYS, Kan. – The sixth-seeded Hutchinson Community College volleyball team's upset bid fell short Saturday, Nov. 8, as second-seeded Colby rallied for a 25-19, 20-25, 25-14, 25-22 victory in the Region 6 Tournament semifinal at Gross Memorial Coliseum.
The Blue Dragons closed their season with a 15-17 record in head coach Dayana Acevedo Trent's first year at Hutchinson. The semifinal appearance marked the program's first since 2022.
Colby (ranked No. 14 nationally) will face top-seeded Barton for the regional championship at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, in Hays.
After splitting the first two sets with the Trojans, Hutchinson struggled in the third set before falling short in a competitive fourth set. The Blue Dragons hit just .036 for the match with 33 kills on 136 attacks as Colby's block totaled 11 stuffs.
Freshman libero Clara Oliveira set a Blue Dragon freshman record with 22 digs, giving her 643 for the season. That total ranks second on Hutchinson's single-season digs list.
Sophomore Jaylynn McNeill led Hutchinson with 10 kills and a career-high eight blocks while hitting .111 on 36 attacks. She added five digs.
Sophomore Alondra Villanueva finished with nine kills, 13 digs and two blocks but hit .006 on 31 attacks. Freshman Mattie Galliher contributed six kills on 20 attacks, hitting .150, and had six blocks. Sophomores Kierny Follmer and Atlyn Proctor added three kills each.
Freshman setter Alexandra Garcia recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 32 assists and a season-high 17 digs.
