Hutchinson to resume water shutoffs in December after monthlong pause
Information obtained from City of Hutchinson
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The city will resume water service disconnections for nonpayment in December after temporarily suspending shutoffs in early November to help residents facing financial hardship.
The city paused disconnections Nov. 4 to provide stability during what officials described as a period of financial uncertainty for residents. Water shutoffs will restart in December, with payments due according to customers' assigned billing groups throughout the month.
"We understand that residents may still be working through financial difficulties, and our goal is to help them stay connected," said Angela Richard, the city's finance director. "If you're having trouble paying your bill, please contact our office. We will gladly work with you to find a manageable solution."
The city has established four billing groups with staggered payment deadlines: Group 1 customers must pay by Dec. 1, Group 2 by Dec. 5, Group 3 by Dec. 12 and Group 4 by Dec. 26. Residents can identify their billing group through the city's interactive utility billing map at https://bit.ly/HutchBillingGroups.

Payment arrangements remain available for customers struggling to pay their bills. Residents can contact the Utility Billing Office at 620-694-2621, email billing@hutchinsonks.gov or visit City Hall to discuss options.
City officials emphasized that timely utility payments support reliable water service for all Hutchinson residents and encouraged customers to stay current to avoid service interruptions.
