Hutchinson Teachers Earn State Recognition for Excellence in Education

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Two educators from USD 308 Hutchinson Public Schools have been selected as nominees for the Kansas State Department of Education's prestigious Horizon Award, recognizing outstanding contributions to student learning and educational innovation.
Kimberly Estes, a special education teacher at Hutchinson Middle School 7, and Emily Remar, a fourth-grade teacher at Graber Elementary School, were chosen from among educators statewide for the honor.
The Horizon Award highlights teachers who demonstrate exceptional dedication to their profession and positive impact on student achievement. Nominees are recognized for their innovative teaching methods, commitment to professional growth and ability to inspire both students and colleagues.
"We are so proud of you and can't wait to watch you continue to shine in USD 308," the district stated in announcing the nominations.
Estes brings specialized expertise in special education to HMS7, working with students who require individualized learning support. Remar serves fourth-grade students at Graber Elementary, contributing to the foundational education that prepares students for middle school success.
The recognition comes as Kansas continues efforts to attract and retain high-quality educators amid ongoing challenges in the profession. State education officials use awards like the Horizon Award to celebrate teaching excellence and encourage continued innovation in classrooms across Kansas.
USD 308 serves the Hutchinson community with multiple elementary, middle and high school campuses. The district has not announced when final Horizon Award recipients will be selected by the state education department.
Both teachers will continue their regular duties while being considered for the statewide recognition.
