Hutchinson Seeks Residents for City Boards, Commissions

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The City of Hutchinson is accepting applications for residents interested in serving on various municipal boards and commissions.
Ten boards are currently seeking members, ranging from airport operations to historic preservation. City officials said serving on these volunteer bodies allows residents to contribute expertise and help shape community policy.
The Airport Advisory Committee provides recommendations on management and operations of Hutchinson Municipal Airport. The Board of Zoning Appeals hears variance requests and appeals related to city zoning regulations.
The Building Trades Board reviews code interpretations and construction standards, while the Housing Commission identifies housing needs and promotes solutions for the area.
Other boards include the Human Relations Commission, which addresses prejudice and inter-group relations; the Land Bank Board of Trustees, which oversees transformation of vacant properties; and the Landmarks Commission, which preserves historic buildings and sites.
The Planning Commission guides implementation of the city's comprehensive plan and oversees zoning regulations. The Public Art Design Council develops public art collections, and the Tree Board manages city forestation programs including the Trees for Tomorrow initiative.
