Hutchinson Recreation Department Offers Self-Defense Workshop for Women

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Recreation Department will host a self-defense workshop aimed at teaching women practical safety skills at Elmdale Park Gymnasium on Thursday, Oct. 9.
The "Fearless & Female: Self-Defense for Women" workshop runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and is open to all women and girls ages 11 and older, according to a social media post from Hutch Rec.
Expert instructor Cindy Coughenour will lead the session, teaching participants real-world tools for personal protection. The workshop covers techniques for responding to situations where participants might be grabbed, knocked down or caught off guard.
"Whether you're in high school, college, or simply want to feel safer day-to-day, this workshop will give you real-world tools to protect yourself," the recreation department stated in its announcement.
The program is particularly recommended for high school and college students, according to organizers.
Registration costs $35 per person or $45 for a mother-daughter combination. Participants can register online at hutchrec.com or in person at the recreation department office at 17 E. 1st Ave.
The recreation department emphasized that the workshop aims to build lasting confidence in participants' personal safety abilities.
Registration is required in advance, with organizers noting that space is limited and the workshop is expected to fill quickly.
