Hutchinson Proclaims September Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council issued a proclamation recognizing September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Sept. 17 as Wear Gold Day during a recent meeting attended by Kids Against Cancer representatives.

The Cancer Council of Reno County, which advocates for cancer awareness and provides education about prevention and treatment, coordinated the appearance before the city council.

"Yesterday, Kids Against Cancer had the honor of attending the Hutchinson City Council meeting, where a proclamation was read recognizing Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Wear Gold Day," the organization said in a social media post.

The group thanked the city for supporting their mission to raise awareness about pediatric cancer and encourage community participation in Wear Gold Day on Sept. 17.

"We can't wait to see our community shining bright in gold on September 17th, and we look forward to sharing more from KAC all month long," the organization stated.

Kids Against Cancer is part of a broader effort to increase awareness of childhood cancer, which affects thousands of children and families across the United States each year. The gold ribbon serves as the symbol for childhood cancer awareness.

The Cancer Council of Reno County is located at 719 W 4th Ave. and can be reached at 620-665-5555 or through their website at cancercouncilrenocounty.org. The organization's email is ccrc@cancercouncilrenocounty.org.

September has been designated as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month nationally to highlight the need for continued research and support for pediatric cancer patients and their families.
