Hutchinson Hospital Recognizes Staff for Emergency Response, Patient Care

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System recognized multiple staff members this week for exceptional patient care, including a rapid response team that helped save a stroke patient.

The hospital's emergency department team received a Mission Moment Award for their coordinated response to a patient who arrived with a critically high stroke score. The medical team achieved key response benchmarks within minutes of the patient's arrival.

According to hospital officials, the patient was assessed by an emergency department physician within one minute, received imaging within three minutes and had a CT scan completed and reviewed within 10 minutes.

The team coordinated a rapid transfer to a nearby comprehensive stroke center facility. Emergency medical services transported the patient 18 minutes after the initial transfer call was made.

Hospital officials credited the quick response by Reno County EMS, the emergency department and radiology teams for what could have been a life-threatening situation resulting in full neurological recovery.

"The patient walked out of the hospital only four days later — proof that seconds truly matter," hospital officials said.

Separately, the hospital announced that Jada Koch, a registered nurse in the intensive care unit, received a DAISY Award for extraordinary compassion during a family's difficult time.

Koch was nominated for the care she provided to a patient's family during end-of-life circumstances. The nomination highlighted Koch's dedication to explaining medical procedures and providing emotional support to family members.

"Jada took care of my mother like she was taking care of her own grandmother," the nomination stated. "She took time to explain everything to us and to my mom, making sure she understood what was happening and why."

The DAISY Award recognizes nurses who demonstrate exceptional compassionate care. Koch was praised for making "a lasting difference in the lives of those you served."

Both recognitions are part of the hospital's ongoing efforts to acknowledge staff members who exemplify excellence in patient care and teamwork.
