Hutchinson High School to host food drive during basketball games

HUTCHINSON — Hutchinson Public Schools will host its fourth annual "PACK the SAC Kids Night" on Jan. 9, combining basketball competition with a community food drive benefiting the Food Bank of Reno County.

The event, scheduled at Hutchinson High School, will feature five basketball games against Salina South throughout the evening. All USD 308 students will receive free admission.

The first 500 children who bring a non-perishable food donation will receive a complimentary T-shirt from event sponsors. Children age 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Games will begin at 4:15 p.m. with boys freshman and girls junior varsity contests played simultaneously in different gymnasiums. The boys JV game follows at 5:45 p.m., with the girls varsity game tipping off at 6 p.m. and the boys varsity game starting at 7:30 p.m.

The main varsity games will be played in the SAC gymnasium, while JV games will take place in the JV gym.

All Sports passes, Gold Cards and employee ID passes will be accepted at the door.

The event marks the latest collaboration between Hutchinson Public Schools and Hutch Salthawk Athletics to support local charitable efforts while promoting school spirit.
