Hutchinson First Responders Unite for National Night Out Community Event

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Fire Department, Hutchinson Police Department and Reno County Emergency Medical Services will host a joint community event Aug. 5 from 6-8 p.m. as part of the national National Night Out celebration.
The free family event will take place behind Salt City Brewing Company on the alley between 5th and 6th Streets, featuring water games, a dunk tank, water balloon fights and opportunities for residents to interact with local first responders and examine emergency equipment.
National Night Out is held each year on the first Tuesday in August across the nation and enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community, according to the National Association of Town Watch.
Participating Departments
The Hutchinson Fire Department works to save lives and protect property through prevention, preparedness, education and response. The department employs approximately 91 personnel and responds to 108 square miles in Hutchinson and the surrounding area.
The Hutchinson Police Department's mission is to foster trusting relationships while utilizing advanced law enforcement strategies to build a safer community. The department operates specialized divisions including K-9 units, patrol sections and traffic enforcement.
Reno County EMS is staffed by 35 paramedics and eight EMTs and, on average, responds to over 7,400 calls a year. Paramedic teams are trained for advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support and pre-hospital trauma life support. Reno County EMS covers 1,250 miles in its mission to better meet the emergency healthcare needs of our neighbors and communities.
Community Building Focus
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live, with millions of neighbors participating across thousands of communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, and military bases worldwide.
The Hutchinson event follows the traditional National Night Out format of providing a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances through interactive activities and informal community engagement.
Residents are encouraged to attend the free event to meet local first responders, participate in family activities and strengthen community connections with the agencies that serve Hutchinson and Reno County.
