Hutchinson Fire Department Extinguishes House Fire, Rescues Multiple Pets

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Fire Department quickly extinguished a structure fire Tuesday evening in the 1300 block of East 7th Avenue, rescuing several pets from the single-story residence.

Firefighters responded to the call at approximately 4 p.m. after receiving reports of a structure fire with light smoke visible from the roof line, according to a press release from Fire Chief Steve Beer.

Crews conducted an aggressive interior fire attack and located the blaze in a bathroom, where they were able to extinguish it quickly. Several pets were found in the residence and removed without injury.

The house was occupied by two adults, three children and several dogs and cats at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported, and occupants were alerted by a working smoke detector, officials said.

The home sustained moderate damage to the bathroom and is not currently habitable, the fire department reported.

The Hutchinson Fire Department thanked several agencies for their assistance, including Hutchinson-Reno County Emergency Communications, Reno County EMS, Kansas Gas, EVERGY and the Hutchinson Police Department.

The cause of the fire was not immediately released. The incident remains under investigation.

The fire department emphasized the importance of working smoke detectors in preventing injuries and fatalities in residential fires.
