PITTSBURG, Kan. — Pittsburg State University has launched a new online bachelor's degree program designed to help technical professionals transition into leadership roles, forming partnerships with nine Kansas community colleges including Hutchinson Community College.
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Technology Management program offers a pathway for workers with Associate of Applied Science degrees or other technical credentials to earn a four-year degree while working full time. The 60-credit-hour program can be completed in as little as two years.
"This program was built for skilled professionals who are ready to move from the technical side of their field into management," said Byron McKay, associate professor and program director. "It allows students to build on what they already know and prepares them to lead teams, projects, and operations in a wide range of industries."
The fully online format accommodates working adults balancing professional and personal commitments. Coursework focuses on management theory, leadership, organizational behavior and production operations, bridging technical expertise with organizational leadership skills.
Hutchinson Community College joins Butler Community College, WSU Tech, Salina Tech, Allen Community College, Highland Community College, Coffeyville Community College, Labette Community College and Pratt Community College as partner institutions.
The partnership allows students who earned technical associate degrees from these community colleges or through apprenticeships to seamlessly transfer credits and continue their education at Pitt State.
"Employers are looking for professionals who understand both technology and people," said Lisa Riedle, dean of the College of Technology.
Graduates will be prepared for positions such as project manager, operations manager, production supervisor or technical director. The degree also provides a foundation for graduate study in technology management or applied leadership.
The program addresses workforce needs across Kansas by recognizing prior technical learning and helping skilled workers advance their careers without leaving their jobs.
