Hutchinson CC dominates second half to rout Labette 79-55

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team turned a slim three-point halftime advantage into a rout Wednesday, Nov. 12, dominating the second half en route to a 79-55 victory over Labette at the Sports Arena.
The Blue Dragons (5-1) closed out their non-conference schedule with their seventh consecutive win over the Cardinals, outscoring Labette 42-21 after intermission.
Hutchinson seized control immediately after halftime, opening the second half with an 11-0 run over the first 8:07. The Blue Dragons held Labette to 28.6% shooting in the second half while connecting on 54.5% of their attempts and five 3-pointers.
First-time starter Dorar led all scorers with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, adding seven rebounds and one block. Kyrell Shaw contributed 15 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Asher Boney recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, adding three assists and three steals. Bobby Cannon added nine points and seven rebounds, while Lolo Rudolph contributed seven points and five assists.
The first half featured 10 lead changes and six ties before Boney's tip-in at the buzzer gave Hutchinson a 37-34 halftime edge. The Blue Dragons had trailed by as many as four points in the opening half.
Hutchinson controlled the boards 56-25 and distributed 23 assists against only 10 turnovers. The Blue Dragons shot 48.5% for the game (32 of 66), going 8 of 22 from 3-point range and 7 of 8 from the free-throw line.
Josiah Harris led Labette (2-5) with 16 points, and Tre Paige added 13. The Cardinals shot 35.7% overall and went 10 of 33 from beyond the arc.
Hutchinson will have a full week to prepare for its Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference opener Wednesday, Nov. 19, against Garden City at the Sports Arena.
