Hutchinson Art Center Seeks Artwork for Consignment Auction

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Art Center is accepting artwork submissions for an upcoming consignment art auction, seeking original vintage pieces from well-known local and regional artists.

The art center is looking for paintings, drawings and original prints in 2D and 3D formats, with sculpture, ceramics and glasswork preferred, according to a social media announcement.

Artists or collectors interested in consigning artwork can deliver pieces to the Hutchinson Art Center during regular business hours now through Monday, Sept. 15, 2025. All artwork must be delivered before 5 p.m. on the final day.

The center will announce the auction date and details in the near future, encouraging potential consigners to mark their calendars.

Questions about the consignment auction can be directed to the Hutchinson Art Center via email at hac@hutchinsonartcenter.net or by calling 620-663-1081.

The art center currently showcases work by two local artists in its Front Gallery through Aug. 2, 2025.

Melinda McDaniel, a Wichita artist and community member since 2013, displays her multidisciplinary work spanning writing, singing, performing and visual art. Her artistic journey expanded around 2020 when she began using materials from "clay pots" in applied arts to express energies from dreams, meditations, visions and downtime.

McDaniel has participated in group showings and published a compilation titled "Lily, Are You Out There?" available on Amazon and eBay. Her experimentation with acrylics and mixed media has evolved from drawings and acrylic pours to exploring human forms and landscapes in a semi-realistic style.

Also featured is Susan Meyer, a Hutchinson resident of three and a half years who previously lived in Southern California for a few years in Northern Germany. Meyer, professionally known as The Colorweaver for about 10 years in the late 1990s to 2000s, designed and created one-of-a-kind light dance costumes used in competitions.

Meyer has expanded into photography, painting, textile art, weaving and handmade junk journals. Her artistic curiosity led her to experiment with assemblage art, and her work has been displayed across the United States and eastern Canada. She now creates assemblage art for seniors in retirement homes, incorporating quirky elements into her pieces.

The Hutchinson Art Center is located in downtown Hutchinson.
