Hutchinson Art Center Final Registration Deadline Approaching

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Art Center is accepting final registrations for its three-day Foundation Oil Painting Workshop, with the deadline set for Saturday, Sept. 13.
The beginner-friendly workshop will run Sept. 26-28 from 1 to 4 p.m. each day, providing participants with comprehensive instruction in oil painting fundamentals.
"You'll explore how to safely use the solvents, paints, and supplies along with essentials such as techniques in color mixing, brushwork, and layering," according to the art center's announcement. The workshop includes step-by-step instructions, live tutorials and individual guidance designed to help participants create their own paintings while building foundational skills.
The workshop will be led by Yulia Vega, a multidisciplinary artist who works with painting and installation to explore themes of home and place within the community. Vega's work examines experiences of transitional homelessness, selective mutism and systemic rupture through visual narratives that focus on survival and personal transformation.
With 20 years of sustained artistic practice, Vega bridges studio work with community engagement. The instructor holds a project management certification and uses organizational skills to expand art's role as a tool for community dialogue and healing.
Vega studied fine arts at Cowley College and the Kansas City Art Institute and is a member of Artist Inc. She currently resides in Wichita, where she works as an artist, project manager and teacher at Mark Arts.
Class tuition is $85 for non-members and $75 for Hutchinson Art Center members.
Registration and additional information about the workshop are available on the center's website at https://www.hutchinsonartcenter.net/acrylic-painting.
