Hutchinson American Legion Members Participate in Colorado Veterans Memorial Ride

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Members of American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68 traveled to Colorado to participate in the 38th Annual Salute to American Veterans ride from Woodland Park to Cripple Creek.
Eight members of the Hutchinson post's American Legion Riders and one member of Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association 21-1 joined five members from Post 1340 in Oklahoma City for the memorial ride. The group traveled to Colorado for the POW-MIA Memorial Ride, which leads participants from Woodland Park to Cripple Creek where ceremonies honoring veterans take place.
"Mostly a great time was had except for getting soaked on Saturday coming back down the mountain from Cripple Creek into Colorado Springs," Bob Deister wrote in a social media post about the trip.
The Kansas American Legion Riders have the privilege of leading the POW-MIA Memorial Ride from Woodland Park to Cripple Creek, where the ceremonies take place, according to Deister's post.
American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68 has served Hutchinson since receiving its charter in 1919. The post welcomes veterans from all branches of the military and continues to participate in events honoring military service members.
Post member David Maxwell was injured in a motorcycle accident Friday morning during the ride when he failed to negotiate a sharp curve. Maxwell suffered multiple injuries and underwent surgery, with additional procedures scheduled. He is expected to remain hospitalized through the end of the month.
