House Fire in Bauman Road Claims One Dog, Causes Extensive Damage

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A structure fire in the 14,000 block of Bauman Road on Thursday afternoon resulted in the death of one dog and extensive smoke and heat damage to a home, according to Reno County Emergency Management.

On September 5, 2025, fire units from Reno County Fire Districts 9, 8 and Reno/Harvey Joint District 2 responded to the blaze at 1208 hours after receiving a mutual aid request from Mt. Hope Fire and Sedgwick County Fire District #1 for additional manpower.

First-arriving units discovered smoke emanating from the roof vents of the structure. Firefighters launched an interior attack and successfully contained the fire to a single bathroom within the residence.

The home sustained smoke and heat damage throughout the structure, officials said. Haven EMS provided rehabilitation services for fire crews at the scene.

No firefighters or civilians were injured during the incident, but one dog was found deceased inside the home.

Travis Vogt, Reno County Fire Administrator, said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The incident required coordination between multiple fire districts across Reno and Sedgwick counties. Reno County Emergency Management posted details of the response on social media Thursday evening.
