Hays Symphony to showcase string orchestra in free concert
The performance will feature works spanning from Baroque to contemporary composers at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

HAYS — The Hays Symphony Orchestra will present "Fall Classics: Simply Strings," a free concert exclusively featuring the orchestra's string sections, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 215 W. 13th St. Under the direction of Benjamin Cline, the program spans musical eras from Baroque to contemporary, opening with Francesco Geminiani's "La Folia" and including modern works by Andrea Casarrubios, Clarice Assad, and Chris Pilsner before concluding with Ralph Vaughan Williams's Concerto Grosso, which uniquely accommodates musicians of varying skill levels. The venue was chosen specifically for its acoustics that enhance string music, and Cline emphasized the concert will showcase "the core sound and emotional heart of the orchestra" while celebrating the collaborative spirit of the ensemble that brings together university faculty, community members, and students. Free tickets are available at hayssymphony.org.
