Hays pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle while crossing street
82-year-old man was hit in crosswalk on Hall Street and died during medical transport to Wichita trauma center.
HAYS, Kan. — An 82-year-old Hays man died Friday evening after being struck by a northbound vehicle while crossing Hall Street in a marked crosswalk near 15th Street, according to Hays police. The accident occurred at 5:46 p.m. in the 1400 block of Hall Street, where citizens were already assisting the pedestrian when officers arrived on scene. The victim received emergency treatment and was transported to HaysMed before being life-flighted to a Wichita trauma center, but died during transport, causing the aircraft to be rerouted to Great Bend. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement, and the investigation is ongoing.
