GREEN RIVER, Wyo. — After extensive debate over the long-term cost-effectiveness of repairing versus replacing aging infrastructure, the Green River City Council voted to table a $3 million loan agreement with the State Loan and Investment Board. The Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loan, offered at a 1.25 percent interest rate, was intended to rehabilitate the Teton water tank. Concerns were expressed during the meeting about saddling taxpayers with 20 years of debt for a "Band-Aid" repair that might prematurely fail. Staff was directed to return with comparative cost estimates for building a completely new, higher-capacity tank before moving forward with any loan agreements.
Indian Hills Drive project set to begin construction
GREEN RIVER, Wyo. — The Public Works Department announced that Wylie Construction will begin work on the Indian Hills Drive reconstruction and utility improvement project. Construction plans call for replacement and upsizing of the water main along the entire length of Indian Hills Drive, from Uinta to Shoshone, along with pavement, sidewalk, curb, gutter and storm sewer improvements. City officials said the contractor would complete as much utility work as possible before winter conditions require a pause.
City accepts $1.685 million federal grant for Killdeer Wetlands repairs
GREEN RIVER, Wyo. — The city council unanimously approved a $1,685,110 financial assistance agreement with the Bureau of Reclamation for the Killdeer Wetlands and Diversion Dam project. The federal grant, which requires no local matching funds, will be used for improvements tied to infrastructure damaged by high river flows in 2017. Officials anticipate the project will move into additional design and engineering work before construction.
Visionary Communications granted city right-of-way franchise
GREEN RIVER, Wyo. — On its third and final reading, the city council unanimously approved a franchise agreement with Visionary Communications LLC, allowing the internet provider to utilize city rights of way to expand local broadband capacity. City officials noted that this marks the first new right-of-way franchise agreement the city has enacted in approximately 20 years. The agreement signals a significant step toward improving telecommunications infrastructure and internet access for Green River residents.
Two reappointed to Planning and Zoning Commission
GREEN RIVER, Wyo. — The mayoral reappointments of Karl Bozner and Greg Bushman to the Planning and Zoning Commission were confirmed. Both will serve three-year terms expiring in August 2029. The confirmations passed easily, with Council Member Sherry Bushman abstaining from the vote on Greg Bushman's reappointment. Council Member Bushman and Greg Bushman are married.
Former recreation supervisor recognized for statewide parks and recreation service
GREEN RIVER, Wyo. — Retired Green River Recreation Supervisor Brenda Roosa was recognized during Tuesday's meeting for her longtime contributions to the city's parks and recreation programs and her upcoming induction into the Wyoming Recreation and Park Association Hall of Fame on Sept. 22 in Casper. Roosa's decades of service building the city's parks and recreation department were highlighted during the presentation.
Green River Arts Council prepares for annual Art on the Green event
