It was great to welcome the NASA Expedition Crew 72 to Capitol Hill this week for NASA Day on the Hill. The crew members included native Kansan Nick Hagu, Suni Williams, Butch Wilmore, Don Pettit, Alexey Ovchinin, Ivan Vagner and Aleksandr Gorbunov.

WASHINGTON - Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kansas, outlined his recent legislative work in a Sept. 22 newsletter, focusing on government funding negotiations, veterans' health care and space exploration initiatives.

Moran said Senate Democrats voted down a short-term continuing resolution that would have extended government funding until Nov. 21, 2025. He criticized the move, saying it prioritizes political positioning over responsible governance. The senator serves on the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee.

The newsletter highlighted Moran's work welcoming NASA Expedition Crew 72 to the Capitol, including Kansas native Nick Hague. As chairman of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Space and Innovation, Moran emphasized his support for American space leadership and Kansas aerospace manufacturers.

On veterans' issues, Moran led a Senate Veterans Affairs Committee hearing on support services for veterans with spinal cord injuries and ALS. He also received the Paralyzed Veterans of America Gordon H. Mansfield Congressional Leadership Award, recognizing his advocacy for disabled veterans.

The senator announced Senate passage of the SUPPORT Act, legislation addressing Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder education and prevention. He met with Gold Star families regarding the "Love Lives On Act," which would allow surviving military spouses to retain benefits upon remarriage.

Moran also discussed meetings with Kansas business leaders, including Textron Aviation executives and Kansas Bankers Association representatives, addressing workforce development and regulatory issues affecting community banks.

The newsletter announced application deadlines for congressional internships (Oct. 19) and the Senate Page Program, while noting the 2025 Service Academy Selection Board appointments.
