From the office of Kansas Governor Laura Kelly


Governor Laura Kelly has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol Complex and all court buildings and facilities to honor 18th Judicial District Division 10 Judge Bruce Brown, who passed away on August 21, 2025. The Governor praised Judge Brown's long career of community service and dedication to upholding the law during his tenure on the bench, extending condolences to his family and friends on behalf of the State of Kansas. The flags will remain at half-staff until Judge Brown is interred, with the flag order to be updated once the interment date is determined.
Brown will be interred after funeral services on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Flags are to remain at half-staff until sundown on this date.
Kelly also announced 17 appointments to various state boards, commissions, and authorities on August 22, 2025, filling positions across multiple organizations that oversee critical functions including disability services, real estate regulation, public employee retirement, gaming oversight, and economic development financing.
