From pageant queen to coffee shop founder: Meet Youth of the Year finalists

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hutchinson announced its 2025 Youth of the Year candidates Thursday, recognizing three members for their leadership and community service.

Gabriel Marcum, Aah'lice Jackson and Karina Flores-Galindo will compete for the honor at an event scheduled for Dec. 4 at The 1861 Club.

Marcum, a longtime club member, serves as a member of Rise Up Reno and vice president of community service for his local Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapter. He established the club's coffee shop, developing its operational framework. Marcum said the organization shaped his commitment to mentoring and teaching workplace skills.

Jackson, a freshman at Hutchinson High School, won the 2024 National American Miss Pageant and holds the title of Miss Kansas PreTeen. The Coffeyville native has participated in Smart Girls, flag football and Keystone programs. She credits the club with developing her confidence and leadership abilities.

Flores-Galindo serves as president of Jobs for America's Graduates-Kansas, regional journalist and student representative on the site council. She focuses on mental health advocacy, encouraging peers to seek support. Flores-Galindo said she values the mentorship she has received and her ability to influence younger members.

The Youth of the Year program recognizes club members who demonstrate leadership, service and academic achievement. The winner will represent the local organization in regional competition.
