Food Bank of Reno County to open new facility after fundraising campaign exceeds $1 million goal

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Food Bank of Reno County will celebrate the grand opening of its new facility March 12 at 921 E. 4th Ave., marking the completion of a capital campaign that surpassed its fundraising target.

The organization's Nourishing Our Future campaign raised $1,115,900, exceeding its $1 million goal. Officials say the new space is designed to serve more residents with greater dignity and fewer barriers.

The event opens with a VIP reception from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house from 10 to 11 a.m. The facility will open to customers for regular business operations at noon. Donors, partners, volunteers and the public are invited to tour the building.

The new location will also house on-site services from First Call for Help, an organization that connects families to additional community resources. Officials said the facility expands the food bank's capacity to address food insecurity across Reno County.

Dillons is sponsoring the grand opening celebration.

The following day, March 13, the food bank will host a community food drive at Dillons Marketplace, 3200 Plaza E Dr. Dillons will match donated food items up to $20,000 in value. Volunteers are also needed that afternoon to help sort donations at the food bank.
