Fire department extinguishes attic blaze on East C Avenue

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Fire Department responded to a structure fire early Tuesday morning in the 500 block of East C Avenue.

Firefighters were called to the scene at approximately 12:14 a.m. Feb. 3. First-arriving units found no visible signs of fire from the exterior and entered the home to investigate.

Crews discovered smoldering electrical wiring and insulation in the attic above the kitchen, according to Battalion Chief Chad Allen. Firefighters quickly opened the ceiling to access the attic and extinguished the smoldering insulation.

Three units remained on scene to complete an overhaul and investigation. No civilian or emergency personnel injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The department thanked Reno County Emergency Communications, Hutchinson Police Department, Reno County EMS and Evergy for their assistance.
