Fire Crews Extinguish Small Blaze at Hutchinson Residence

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Fire Department crews quickly contained a small fire at a two-story home Thursday evening, preventing major damage and injuries to the three occupants inside.
Firefighters responded to the 600 block of East A Avenue at 5:30 p.m. following reports of a structure fire, according to a press release from Division Chief of Operations Jeremy Unruh.
Upon arrival, crews discovered light smoke on the second floor and moderate smoke in the attic. Firefighters located and extinguished a small fire in the floor of the second story.
One adult and two children were in the home when the fire started, but no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The home sustained minimal damage and remains habitable, fire officials said.
Multiple agencies assisted in the response, including Hutchinson Police, Evergy, Hutchinson Reno County Emergency Communications, Kansas Gas and Reno County Emergency Medical Services.
The Hutchinson Fire Department serves the city of approximately 40,000 residents in south-central Kansas. The department regularly coordinates with local agencies to ensure comprehensive emergency response throughout Reno County.
Fire officials have not released an estimated timeline for completing the investigation into the fire's cause.
