Evanston City Council approves first reading of controversial twin home subdivision
EVANSTON, Wyo. — Despite significant pushback from neighboring residents, the Evanston City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance for the Chaparral Estates 9th Addition in a split vote. The proposed development includes 40 twin-home lots on the west side of Overthrust Road. Existing residents expressed concerns over increased traffic, parking issues, snow removal and the lack of a secondary access road for emergency services. Local developer Gary Ellingford noted the project aligns with current zoning laws and aims to provide affordable entry-level housing options under $350,000. The proposal will go before the Evanston Planning and Zoning Commission on Sept. 14 before returning to the council for its second and third readings.
Evanston finalizes $411,000 dispatch agreement with Uinta County
EVANSTON, Wyo. — Ending a lengthy negotiation process, the Evanston City Council unanimously approved a resolution executing a two-year dispatch services agreement with Uinta County. Evanston will pay $411,145 annually for emergency and non-emergency dispatch services, covering 37.5% of wages for 11 full-time dispatchers, while Uinta County maintains the equipment and 911 system. Police Chief Mike Vranish noted this is the first time the city and county have formalized dispatch fees into a contract, which will be up for renegotiation in February 2027.
Evanston leases historic Roundhouse space to Alpine Distilling
EVANSTON, Wyo. — The Evanston City Council unanimously approved a five-year real estate lease with GA Wyo LLC, doing business as Alpine Distilling, for Section 4 of the historic Evanston Roundhouse. The Park City-based distillery will lease 10,000 square feet of production space at $7.50 per square foot, generating approximately $75,000 annually for the city, with an option to lease an additional 5,000 square feet for food and beverage service. Owners Rob and Sara Sergent anticipate being fully functional by the 2026 holiday season, aiming to offer educational classes, tastings and retail sales while contributing to Evanston's historic downtown revitalization.
