Emergency Train Stop Near McPherson Fairgrounds Sparks Multi-Agency Search

MCPHERSON COUNTY, KS — A Union Pacific Railroad train made an emergency stop near the McPherson County Fairgrounds late Friday night after receiving reports of a person lying on the tracks, prompting a massive search effort by local emergency responders. The incident, which occurred at approximately 11:00 p.m. on July 18 just outside Canton, drew units from the Canton Fire Department, Canton EMS, McPherson Fire Department, McPherson County Sheriff's Office, and Union Pacific Railroad personnel to the scene.

After conducting an extensive and coordinated search of the area, authorities found no evidence that anyone had been struck by the train. Rail operations resumed normal service after emergency crews cleared the scene.
