Emergency shelter seeks volunteers, donations for winter operation
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Foundation of Life Ministries is recruiting volunteers and accepting donations to support The Refuge Project, a secondary emergency shelter for families and children operating through March 31.
The organization needs volunteers to provide overnight support on a rotating schedule. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least two days per week, with shifts available Monday through Sunday.
J.k. Vann, posting on behalf of Foundation of Life Ministries on Nov. 18, said community response has been strong but more help is needed.
"The response from our community has been incredible," Vann wrote. "From our heart to yours, we say thanks. We are still actively recruiting volunteers to help us in executing this mission."
The shelter welcomes in-kind donations of goods and services, including blankets, pillows, children's activities such as coloring books and puzzles, food, professional services from therapists and health workers, female products and paper products including paper towels and toilet tissue.
The shelter, located at 114 E. Eighth Ave., opened Dec. 1 and will operate through the winter months.
