Early Voting Opens for EMS Sales Tax Measure

Half-cent countywide tax would shift emergency services funding from property taxes

Early Voting Opens for EMS Sales Tax Measure

MCPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — Early voting began this week for the Nov. 4 general election, where McPherson County residents will decide whether to approve a half-cent countywide sales tax dedicated to Emergency Medical Services funding. The proposed tax would take effect April 1, 2026, and remain in place for five years, generating an estimated $4 million annually while potentially allowing county and city leaders to reduce property taxes starting in 2027.

The measure would distribute revenue among five EMS providers: McPherson EMS (49%), Lindsborg EMS (18%), Moundridge EMS (15%), Rural Fire District 1 in Canton (10%), and Rural Fire District 2 in Marquette (8%). Early voting continues through Nov. 3 at the McPherson County Courthouse, 122 W. Marlin, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, closing at noon on Nov. 3. Election Day polling runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at assigned precinct locations. If the measure fails, EMS services will continue being funded primarily through property taxes.
