Eagles soar past Salthawks 56-19 in conference matchup

The Hutchinson High School Salthawks (2-0) faced off against the Maize High School Eagles (2-0) on Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, at Gowens Stadium in Hutchinson, Kansas.

This game was an important early-season matchup in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail Conference. Both teams entered the game undefeated and were highly ranked on MaxPreps.com, with the Hutchinson Salthawks ranked No. 7 in Kansas 5A and the Maize Eagles ranked No. 6 in Kansas 6A.

Maize Eagles senior quarterback No. 4 Brayden Myovela sets himself for the throw against the Hutchinson Salthawks. Myovela was the star on offense for Maize as the Eagles defeated the Hutchinson High School Salthawks 56-19.

The Eagles promptly took charge of the game. Maize received the opening kickoff and quickly scored. Maize utilized an efficient run-pass option offense, led by senior quarterback No. 4 Brayden Myovela.

After falling behind by 21 points, Hutchinson capitalized on good field position to score their first points with a pass play from senior quarterback No. 1 Robert Hunter to junior wide receiver No. 8 Lamar Govain. However, that was the only time the Salthawks reached the red zone in the first half, which ended with a score of 49-7.

Maize demonstrated strength on both offense and defense. At the same time, the Salthawks caused themselves problems with mistakes, resulting in three Eagle scores in the first half off Hutchinson turnovers. The Eagles posted a final score of 56-19 over the Salthawks.
