Dillon Nature Center to host groundwater education event

HUTCHINSON — The Dillon Nature Center will host an educational program on groundwater management Thursday, Nov. 20, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the center's Taylors' Shady Lane Cabin.

Orrin Feril, manager of Big Bend Groundwater Management District #5, will lead the discussion on the role groundwater plays in ecosystems, agriculture and daily life, as well as ways to protect it for the future.

According to promotional materials, a single acre of farmland can hold over 27 million gallons of groundwater beneath it — enough water to fill more than 40 Olympic-size swimming pools.

The event costs $10 for Dillon Nature Center members and $15 for non-members. Refreshments will be provided.

Registration is available at https://bit.ly/3JKh5hj. The deadline to register is Nov. 18.
